Erickson Living’s Charlestown campus in Catonsville, MD, is the nation’s largest single-site, not-for-profit continuing care retirement community, according to rankings recently compiled by investment bank Ziegler.

The rankings come on the heels of the LeadingAge Ziegler 100 report. The 2013 edition, released last month, lists the largest not-for-profit senior living systems based on total owned market-rate units.

Charlestown offers 1,437 independent living units, 125 assisted living units and 206 skilled nursing beds, for a total of 1,768 units, according to the Ziegler top 25 list. Carolina Meadows in Chapel Hill, NC, which ranked No. 25, has 598 units.

The average single-campus, non-profit CCRC encompasses about 60% independent living, 16% assisted living and 25% skilled nursing, according to Ziegler.

Pennsylvania and Arizona are each home to four of the CCRCs on the top 25 list, and three Virginia communities appear on it.
