The wrapping on an package left at New Jersey’s Brakeley Park Center last month was suspicious enough to warrant a call to the state bomb squad.

Turns out, the first call should have been to the local drug task force.

Police in Lopatcong Township reported for the first time Tuesday that the package, intended for a nursing home employee, actually contained 38 grams of methamphetamine. It arrived from Colorado on May 7, and was meant to be delivered to Rose Florie, 61, authorities said.

Florie has since been arrested and charged with conspiracy to possess and conspiracy to distribute more than an ounce of methamphetamine, according to a press release on the police department’s Facebook page.

Brakeley Park Center, owned by Genesis HealthCare, is a 4-star rated nursing home and rehabilitation facility in the state’s Northwest corner. A police records clerk told McKnight’s Wednesday that a report about the incident did not include the employee’s position, and a call seeking further details from Genesis was not returned by publication deadline.

But Genesis spokeswoman Lori Mayer said in a statement to Lehigh Valley Live that the 120-bed facility continues to cooperate with law enforcement on the case.

“We received a package through a delivery company that was wrapped in a nature that appeared suspicious,” Mayer’s explained in a written statement. “We immediately contacted the police and they have handled the investigation since that time. Unfortunately, we cannot comment further on a police investigation.”
