Seniors are largely satisfied with the new Medicare drug benefit and most do not intend to change plans next year, according to the results of a new poll conducted by the Wall Street Journal Online/Harris Interactive.

The percentage of those satisfied with their Medicare plan rose by double digits – from 75% to 87%. Just 6% said they weren’t satisfied and 19% said they were likely to switch plans.

Around 75% of respondents said they have saved money on their prescription drugs compared to 12% who said they had to pay full price due to a coverage gap in the Medicare Part D drug benefit.

The survey of adults over the age of 65 also found that 83% said the two-year-old benefit is easy to use. The poll was conducted Nov. 29 to Dec. 3.
