An elderly resident developed flesh-eating bacteria as a result of a nursing home’s negligence, according to a lawsuit filed recently in Illinois.

The brother of the resident, Ken Neumann of Yorkville, filed suit in Cook County Circuit Court charging McAllister Nursing Home, Tinley Park, IL, with violating the Nursing Home Reform Act. He is asking for damages in excess of $50,000.

Beverly Neumann, 75, was recuperating from hip surgery in the nursing home where she has resided for more than 35 years when she contracted necrotizing fasciitis, or flesh-eating bacteria.

Neumann has a feeding tube, colostomy bag and is confined to bed. The lawsuit claims her condition went undiagnosed for weeks, allowing her condition to decline.
