Two veteran employees of The Palace Nursing and Rehab Center in Kendall, FL, received quite a surprise — and some new family members — when they discovered they were long-lost second cousins.

The revelation came after activities assistant Susana Jewell joined a co-worker in ordering Dominican food, Miami’s Community Newspapers reported on Friday. That prompted nursing assistant Mectahylde Jeannot to ask if Jewell was Dominican, as she was in search of relatives who were from the Dominican Republic.

Those relatives turned out to be Jewell’s grandparents — a connection Jewell and Jeannot never made in their respective 19 and 16 years working at the facility. Since making the discovery Jeannot has met with some of Jewell’s family, and the two have shared family photos.

Realizing they’re related has also brought Jewell and Jeannot closer together at work, a feat that wasn’t too hard since they — thankfully — “never had any issues working together,” they told the newspaper.
