The families of all 23 nursing home patients who died when their bus caught fire in the aftermath of Hurricane Rita have announced they have settled lawsuits with care provider Sunrise Senior Living Services Inc. Details of the settlement remain confidential, they said.

The bus was carrying passengers north from Sunrise’s Brighton Gardens in Houston when it caught fire in September 2005. Investigators later were able to link the blaze, which exploded oxygen tanks residents were using, to faulty brake equipment.

Last year, Global Limo, and BusBank, which hired Global Limo, agreed to a settlement of $11 million with survivors and the families of residents who died. Fourteen passengers survived.
