Nearly 80% of older and disabled Americans strongly support both a proposal to permit prescription drug imports and one to allow the government to negotiate prices of medicines, according to a poll conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation. The people polled generally dismissed concerns about the safety of imported drugs.
Nearly half the people questioned said they have an unfavorable impression of the new prescription drug law passed last year by the Republican-led Congress.
Those polled said the law does not do enough to bring down prices, it is too complicated and it rewards drug makers and insurers. A quarter of those surveyed said they like the law.
Researchers surveyed 1,223 Medicare recipients between June 16 and July 21.
