Healthcare providers in nursing homes and hospitals are warned to be on the lookout for suspicious invoices for “solid waste consulting” services that were never performed.
Facilities in several states have received invoices from the Kansas City Missouri-based WasteCheck Consulting Programs for such services on Nov. 12, ranging from $279.50 to $8,359, according to the Kansas City Better Business Bureau.
An attorney for WasteCheck claims the invoices were a marketing piece, but the documents are clearly marked “invoice” and do not include a clear statement indicating a solicitation, a requirement by the Federal Trade Commission, said BBB spokesperson Julie Martin.
The BBB has received eight complaints from facilities in Ohio, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska and Texas, and some healthcare providers in South Dakota and Kentucky also have received invoices. Companies that have paid the invoice in error should contact the Kansas City Better Business Bureau immediately at (816) 421-7800, Martin said.
