The New York Office of the Medicaid Inspector General plans to identify on its Web site those healthcare providers that have billed Medicaid for services provided to deceased beneficiaries.

It disclosed this information in a letter sent this week to nursing homes, hospitals and trade associations representing Medicaid providers. It said it will post the names and addresses of those providers starting Oct. 1.

Besides focusing on claims submitted for medical service to deceased beneficiaries, the office plans to hone in on two other areas: claims submitted after third-party liability has been established and the failure to reimburse the Medicaid program for those claims, and bills submitted to a Medicaid beneficiary for a Medicaid-covered service.
