Tabassum Majid, Ph.D., works every day to change what it means to age, especially for those living with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and other forms of neurocognitive change.

Through her position as executive director at the Integrace Institute at Copper Ridge, she and her team are dedicated to educating and creating evidence-based care practices for families and professionals.

Majid joined Sykesville, MD-based Integrace Institute in 2016 after earning her Ph.D. from Baylor College of Medicine and completing a fellowship at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, researching care management decisions with caregivers and individuals with dementia.

Since joining the institute, Majid has established an annual person-centered research forum. The event brings together representatives from stakeholder organizations to speak about research findings and their implications as well as the challenges and opportunities of conducting research within the aging services field.

Outside of her job, Majid is a member of the Virginia I. Jones Council on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders and contributes to the development and implementation of the Maryland state plan for Alzheimer’s. She also teaches an interdisciplinary studies capstone seminar at the University of Maryland Baltimore County.

In addition, she leads the Caregivers Sharing Meaningful Priorities for Patients (CHAMPIONS) study at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. The study looks at the types of treatments and outcomes that are most important to caregivers when making healthcare decisions for those with Alzheimer’s and other kinds of dementia. Data are being shared with industry professionals nationwide and implemented to shape services at Integrace’s senior living communities and beyond.
