After 21 years in the healthcare industry, Nancy McCune was close to retiring and receiving full benefits. But when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, she chose to delay her ride into the sunset to ensure that her facility continued to operate smoothly.

McCune is the healthcare systems administrator at Westmoreland Manor, a county-owned facility in Greensburg, PA. In this role, she is integral to the success of the facility as a whole.

As such, her colleagues at Westmoreland Manor were grateful that she decided to stay on, instead of retire.

“They were very relieved, since there is no one here at the moment that can do all aspects of my job,” McCune said.

Her decision to prioritize the well-being of her facility, staff and residents over herself was “inspirational,” Director of Customer Engagement at PointClickCare Melissa Jackson said.

“Nancy chose to prioritize supporting her facility until we’re out of this pandemic.”

For McCune, the decision to stay was easy.

“I am someone who believes strongly that human kindness and consideration should be much more common,” she explained. “We all have the capability to make someone’s day better or worse. I always try to make it better.”

Although she hasn’t set a date yet to officially retire, McCune estimated that she’ll continue in her position for at least another year or two.

Regardless of how much longer she stays, Jackson said she will forever be grateful for McCune’s dedication to Westmoreland Manor.

“Nancy is a true hero in the industry, and we wish her all the best when she is able to enter into retirement,” she said.
