To successfully run a nursing home, skills in communication, organization and problem-solving are critical. Morgan Mulvany has all of those qualities in abundance, according to colleagues.

Mulvany started working at Odin Health as a licensed practical nurse. After she became a registered nurse, she was promoted to assistant director of nursing, then director of nursing, and then nursing home administrator. She was promoted to facility administrator in 2015 and since has helped double the average census, raise its quality rating to four stars and achieve multiple awards.

Mulvany has said that the biggest part of her job is taking care of people, including both staff members and residents. For staff, she always is exploring new ways to keep morale high. Fun activities and a careful attention to teammates’ wants and needs have kept spirits high and turnover low during her time at Odin Health, colleagues said.

And Mulvany makes sure each resident is cared for in a compassionate, homey environment. She is known for pioneering fun events such as a “meal of the month,” gardening projects and engaging competitions to help residents feel comfortable.

Mulvany also believes in the value of continuity of care. Colleagues said she never fails to lend a helping hand, even for past residents who no longer live at the facility.

She embodies the spirit of lifelong improvement, according to her nominator. Lately, Mulvany has been exploring ways to improve staff members’ means of communication to enhance operational efficiency and care quality.
