Lorraine Breuer

Editor’s Note: McKnight’s Long-Term Care News, McKnight’s Senior Living and McKnight’s Home Care are profiling the McKnight’s 2024 Women of Distinction honorees daily from July 1 to Aug. 13. For additional McKnight’s Women of Distinction content, visit this page.

In her role as senior vice president for research and grants at Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation, Lorraine Breuer is instrumental in overseeing and securing funding for vital research. But beyond this, Breuer is a true innovator in elder care whose work has been equally instrumental in building effective and efficient methods of daily operations as in providing person-centered and compassionate care, according to her colleagues.

The innovation and person-first focus very often go hand-in-hand on projects Breuer touches. She redesigned Parker’s discharge system, for example, making it more understandable for residents and patients transitioning through the continuum of care in the process. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she developed Parker’s telehealth system and helped educate other care sector professionals on how to use those tools to generate better health outcomes. Her efforts and leadership have created dozens of jobs for healthcare workers as well as generated millions of dollars in grants and revenues, according to the firm.

“Throughout her dynamic career, Ms. Breuer has transformed the quality of care for older adults, whether they are at Parker or aging in place in their private homes,” her nominator told McKnight’s. “Her body of work has improved the lives of not only vulnerable populations but also their caregivers, nationwide.”
