The American Medical Director Association’s annual conference, “Long Term Care Medicine—2011,” continues through Sunday in Tampa with concurrent educational sessions highlighting some of the hottest topics in caregiving today. A highlight of Saturday’s agenda will be a presentation by Professor David R. Thomas, MD, CMD, an expert in pressure ulcers and wound care.

At Saturday’s General Session, attendees will hear about AMDA’s latest policy and advocacy efforts. There also will be presentations on MDS 3.0, the prescribing of controlled substances and an update on development of competencies for the nursing home specialist. In addition, Saturday will offer a “Best Practices Swap Session,” during which six programs briefly present their best practices, offer expert advice and share materials that contributed to their successes.

The four-day conference will conclude Sunday with multiple keynote addresses, including one by Sara Rowan, who will discuss her experiences as a cancer survivor and caregiver for a husband with Alzheimer’s disease. For more on the meeting, click here.
