Homemaking guru Martha Stewart is expected to testify this Wednesday at a U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging hearing on the imminent severe shortage of long-term care health professionals.
Stewart, founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, will join distinguished aging experts, including Robyn Stone, executive director of the Institute for the Future of Aging Services, at the hearing, Caring For Our Seniors: How Can We Support Those on the Frontlines? The hearing will be held at 3 p.m. EST Wednesday in the Dirksen Senate Office Building.
During the hearing, the committee will review a major Institute of Medicine report to be released Monday. The report will offer major recommendations for improving and expanding the skills and preparedness of the long-term care workforce.
Stewart, who will serve as a panelist, will share her experience as a caregiver for her mother, and how it influenced her decision to establish the Martha Stewart Center for Living, a model clinic for coordinated outpatient geriatric services at Mount Sinai in New York.
