Manor Care Inc. said Tuesday that it had hired Stephen L. Guillard, chairman and CEO of Harborside Healthcare Corp, to become an executive vice president with the company. Guillard will be responsible for all of the Toledo, OH-based chain’s nursing centers and assisted living operations.
Guillard will report to M. Keith Weikel, Manor Care’s senior executive vice president and chief operating officer. Guillard also holds the post of chairman of the Alliance for Quality Nursing Home Care, a coalition of 14 national provider organizations, including Manor Care and Harborside.
Harborside wasted no time in naming a replacement. The New England-based operator of more than 50 skilled nursing centers said that Damian Dell’Anno, the company’s president and chief operating officer since August 2001, would succeed Guillard as CEO. Dell’Anno’s will be effective June 1, 2005.
With nearly 300 facilities and 41,000 skilled-nursing beds at the end of 2003, Manor Care was the biggest skilled-nursing operator in the country in terms of bed volume.
