A new infection prevention course aims to bring more awareness about, and practical tips to stop, the spread of infections in assisted living communities.

The course, “Infection Prevention and Control Essentials for Assisted Living,” was put together by The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology and Argentum.

The four-part course is specifically made for frontline health professionals working in assisted living communities throughout the United States.  There are more than 30,500 assisted living communities in the country.

The modules cover:

  • Learning infection prevention and control basics such as using personal protective equipment, hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, using sharps safely, cleaning, environmental topics, cleaning and food safety.
  • Making transmission-based precautions to prevent illnesses from spreading.
  • Understanding what puts people at a higher risk for infections and how to make special considerations for them.
  • Creating and leading an effective infection prevention and control program in an assisted living community.

“Through our partnership with Argentum, we are able to provide infection prevention control education to a critical group of healthcare professionals who provide direct care to our nation’s seniors,” APIC CEO Devin Jopp said in a statement.

“Teaming our senior living experts with APIC’s infection prevention experts, we have been able to develop a thorough and comprehensive course that is uniquely tailored to our audience. It’s critical as the industry continues to elevate measures to protect residents from infection,” Brad Williams, senior vice president of business operations at Argentum, said in a statement.

The course costs $225 for Argentum members and $305 for non-members. Check this list to see whether your company is a member.
