The average national cost of a private nursing home room inched up 2.2% this year, rising to $76,460 (or $209 per day), according to the latest annual survey results from Genworth Financial. The average cost of a one-room assisted living unit, meanwhile, jumped 11%, to $36,090.

Genworth, a vendor of long-term care insurance, said in a companion report that a shortage of qualified workers is liable to keep pressing costs upward.

Nursing home costs, as in past years were highest in Alaska ($515 per day) and lowest in Louisiana ($125 per day). The highest and lowest assisted living costs were found in New Jersey ($4,912 per month) and Arkansas ($1,981 per month).

The study by Richmond, VA-based Genworth examined data from more than 10,000 nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and home care providers nationwide. State-by-state information and other details of the report can be found at http://www.genworth.com/costofcare.
