Rebecca Ferrini, the full-time medical director at Edgemoor Hospital in Santee, CA, was honored Friday as the 2009 Medical Director of the Year by the profession’s main association.

“Dr. Ferrini exemplifies the passion, commitment, and leadership abilities that we see among our members. She has embraced challenges and tackled them head on,” said Lorraine Tarnove, executive director of the American Medical Directors Association, which granted the award at the group’s annual symposium.

An interdisciplinary panel that chose Ferrini from over 50 nominees said they were honoring her for her work as a physician leader, educator, patient advocate and clinician at the 175-bed country-run nursing facility.

Edgemoor Administator Gwenmarie Hilleary, FACHE, along with Edgemoor Director of Nursing Nancy Beecham, RNC, BS, nominated Dr. Ferrini for the honor. “She’s like the Energizer Bunny. She talks fast, reads fast, and thinks fast,” said Beecham about Ferrini. “She can size up a situation quickly.”
