Could the connection between old age and frailty become an idea of the past? Numerous scientists are predicting just that.

While it is a commonly held belief that muscle weakness, exhaustion, and weight loss typical of frailty are the inevitable result of aging, research is now indicating they are preventable and possibly treatable conditions, according to a report in the Boston Globe.

Research indicates that exercise can prevent or reduce frailty, and new drugs on the market target particular symptoms of frailty, including as muscle weakness. The newspaper reported that several major drug companies are testing medicines designed to stimulate growth hormones to see if they can promote increases in muscle mass and strength.
