A Dutch doctor has admitted to injecting five residents with fatal doses of morphine, authorities say. The physician says he did not murder the dementia-affected residents but rather had “relieved” them of their “suffering.”
A spokesman for the Alex Daenekindt facility said legal euthanasia was not a valid claim because Belgian law allows it only if a patient specifically requests it, according to a report on LifeSiteNews.com.
The deaths took place over a three-year period. Facility officials reported them, leading to the doctor’s arrest last Friday. He was released Monday, said officials, who did not reveal the suspect’s identity and added that an investigation is ongoing.
