An Eversound visit at a Maplewood community in Darien, CT.

A new, two-way communication tool launched this week by Eversound allows senior living residents to socialize through their window, from a balcony or at a safe distance outside.

The technology was developed in response to limits on visitors during the COVID-19 surge.

Eversound is known for its engaging, accessible social programs for residents of more than 600 communities. Its core technology suite includes wireless headphones designed for older adult users. Among the many features are broader frequency ranges to deliver truer sound to those with hearing loss, ergonomic volume controls and antimicrobial materials for use in a clinical environment. The system’s wireless transmitter can also broadcast voice and audio simultaneously to the headphones.

One senior living provider using the technology to facilitate distance-based conversation is Maplewood Senior Living. Families are now able to schedule in-person visits with loved ones at  all of Maplewood’s 15 independent living, assisted living and memory care communities in the Northeast.

“From the beginning of COVID-19, we started working on safe ways for residents and families to socialize, and even visit with each other” said Brian Geyser, VP Clinical Innovation & Population Health at Maplewood Senior Living. “Our Safe Visits Pilot with Eversound over Mother’s Day was very successful, and we’re excited to expand that program over the coming months.”
