A big, national spotlight will be on nursing home providers next Wednesday. The chair of the Senate Aging Committee is holding a hearing on the safety and quality of the nursing home industry 20 years after the implementation of the Nursing Home Reform Act, also known as OBRA ’87.
Committee Chairman Herb Kohl (D-WI) will preside over the hearing, which will feature testimony from prominent individuals from provider, government, advocacy groups, and other areas. The hearing comes just days after a report found that federal enforcement actions have failed to improve quality at some nursing homes.
Panelists will include: Mary Ousley, former chair of the American Health Care Association; Kathryn Allen, director of health care, U.S. Government Accountability Office; and Alice H. Hedt, executive director of the National Citizen’s Coalition for Nursing Home Reform. The hearing will be held at 10:30 EST in the Dirksen Senate Building.
