Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is being accused of holding up a Republican drug pricing plan by an unlikely source — a fellow Republican.

Senate Finance Committee Chair Chuck Grassley (R-IA) made the accusation last week.

“Leadership doesn’t want [this measure] to come up,” Grassley noted. He added that he plans to build support by negotiating with the House and urged President Trump to back the Prescription Drug Pricing Reduction Act.

The measure would reduce Medicare Part D beneficiaries’ out-of-pocket costs, and revise reinsurance provisions in the program. The legislation also would establish a $3,100 cap on annual out-of-pocket spending in Medicare Part D, starting in 2022.
