VIRGINIA — Warm Hearth Village, a continuing care retirement community in Blacksburg, has become the state’s first certified dementia-friendly business.
Developed by the Alzheimer’s Association, to receive the recognition Warm Hearth Village had to have 50% of the employees and all board members become Dementia Friends, be a third of the way to having 50% of its independent residents becoming Dementia Friends, have all volunteers be Dementia Friends, hold refresher information sessions, and more.
Once approved by Dementia Friends, organizations receive support from a Dementia Friendly Community team, stickers to distribute to the active members of the group and access to tailored Dementia Friendly Community resources.
