Tommy Thompson for president? It’s a possibility, says the former secretary of Health and Human Services under President Bush.

Thompson, who served as the governor of Wisconsin for 14 years before taking the cabinet post, said he would form a committee early next year to explore a possible bid for the White House in 2008.

“I believe the top issues for the presidential election are going to be energy and healthcare, and I think I have some of the best ideas in the country on both of them,” he reportedly said by phone from Iowa. He was there for an event marking the opening of enrollment for the Medicare prescription drug benefit.
