Employees at one Delaware nursing home went well out of their way to help capture the life of an “extraordinary resident” who says she is technically 25 years old.

Margaret Nicholson was born on a Leap Day, February 29, in 1920, and she jokes that she’s only celebrated a few dozen birthdays in her life. She’s become a fixture at the Genesis HealthCare center in Seaford, DE, greeting and chatting up visitors in the lobby, and attending activities on a daily basis.

As Seaford Center’s oldest resident, Nicholson’s life included sponsoring children in Haiti and battling a childhood disease that affected her ability to walk, says Social Services Director Lori Jones.

Hoping to capture her full life, staff at Seaford Center began helping Nicholson write down her life story a few years ago. With an assist from their social work intern and other staffers, she dictated her memoir, with her life recorded in pictures, and included highlights alongside some of her favorite Bible passages.

The facility recently had the book bound and gave signed copies of the finished product — called “This Story Reveals What God Can Do” — to friends and family.

“Everyone has made me feel special here and has made this feel like my home,” she wrote in the book.

“Ms. Nicholson is a very special addition to Seaford Center and we count it a privilege to care for her each day,” Jones adds.
