The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is scheduled to release new surveyor guidance related to psychosocial outcome severity today. The guidance comes after providers expressed significant reservations about the document to CMS.

Specifically, the American Health Care Association has been concerned about the guidance’s departure from other guidance for surveyors. The advocacy group also complained about the lack of regulatory requirement or F-tag associated with the guidance.

The Psychosocial Outcome Severity Guidance originally was scheduled to be released June 1. CMS recently has released high-profile surveyor guidances related to pressure ulcers, incontinence and medical directors.
