Infection control is a hot button issue in long-term care, and high-touch items like smartphones and tablets surely can serve as breeding grounds for germs.

With that in mind, UltraUVTech has announced the availability of a new tool to help sterilize devices’ surfaces. Called the “Raes system,” the product was developed with the help of a Kickstarter campaign, and claims that it can eliminate up to 99.99% of disease-causing pathogens found on handheld devices, keyboards and other electronics.

The system is able to do so by using powerful light bulbs to eliminate pathogens after 30 seconds or less of light exposure. It comes either as a built-in port station for office equipment, a mobile sleeve for smaller devices, or as a filter that cleanses surrounding air, according to a company announcement.
