The House Budget Committee has approved its fiscal 2006 budget resolution. The measure calls for $69 billion in cuts over five years to programs, including Medicare and Medicaid.
Skilled nursing facilities are expressing concern that the reductions will result in lower government payments for services.
The House measure seeks $18 billion in Medicaid cuts beyond the $60 billion President Bush requested in February. House Budget Committee Chair Jim Nussle (R-Iowa) said that even with the additional reductions, Medicaid and other programs would “continu[e] to grow at huge rates.”
The Senate Budget Committee is expected to approve the Senate’s budget proposal this week. The package calls for $32 billion in cuts over five years for mandatory programs, including Medicaid.
