Mariner Health Care posted profits of $3.4 million on revenue of $411.8 million in the second quarter of 2004, compared with a loss of $1.7 million on revenue of $425.6 million in the year ago quarter.

National Senior Care Inc. and NCARE Acquisition Corp., a subsidiary of NSC, bought Mariner for $1 billion on June 29. The merger is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2004.

Mariner operates 263 skilled nursing and assisted living facilities and 11 long-term acute care hospitals.
