A senior living operator has agreed to pay $40,000 to settle charges that it retaliated against an employee, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced Friday.

The worker repeatedly told managers at the Cordia Senior Residence in Westmont, IL, that sexual harassment was taking place, according to the EEOC. Cordia, an independent and assisted living provider, allegedly fired the now-former employee in retaliation for the complaints, leading to the lawsuit.

The $40,000 will go to the former worker, and Cordia also agreed to record-keeping and reporting requirements designed to prevent future retaliation, the EEOC stated in a press release.

Massachusetts-based Cordia Senior Living had not responded to a phone call from McKnight’s as of press time.
