The Obama administration has given long-term care providers an extra year to become compliant with a new set of disease diagnosis codes. Under a federal proposal, the rule for the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Edition codes, known as ICD-10, would be delayed until Oct. 1, 2014. Provider concerns largely drove the government’s decision to push back the new rule’s implementations date. The proposal also requires health plans to adopt a unique health plan identifier for all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) transactions.
