Researchers at the BMW Group and a leading German university have jointly developed a sensor system that integrates into an automobile’s steering wheel. Its purpose: to monitor the health status of drivers. The system uses simple sensors to monitor vital signs such as heart rate, skin conductance and oxygen saturation in the blood. Collected data is transmitted by radio waves to a microcontroller, which in turn can show the measurement results on the vehicle’s dashboard.
