Editor’s Note: McKnight’s Long-Term Care News, McKnight’s Senior Living and McKnight’s Home Care are profiling the McKnight’s 2024 Women of Distinction honorees daily from July 1 to Aug. 13. For additional McKnight’s Women of Distinction content, visit this page.

Whether it’s by training and developing members of her team or learning new skills herself, Maureen Rizzo always is finding ways to make improvements, according to colleagues. It’s this spirit that has brought her so much success in the senior living profession.

Maureen is senior executive director at Generations Senior Living in suburban Cleveland, acting as the executive director for one location and providing supervisory support at another. Her communities consistently rank above average in resident and family satisfaction surveys conducted by the Ohio Department of Aging, and they have received awards in the American Health Care Association / National Centers for Assisted Living National Quality Awards program.

In past roles, Rizzo has worked as a clinical therapist, substance abuse professional and a regional director of business development. While she was administrator of Riverview Pointe Care Center, a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility, she helped the center achieve a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

If there’s one thing about Rizzo, colleagues said, it’s that she is constantly learning and teaching. She has a Master of Social Work degree and is a licensed nursing home administrator, a licensed social worker and a health services executive. Rizzo also is a member of Eldercare Professionals of Ohio, a networking group where she educates peers and plans fundraising events for various organizations.

Colleagues marvel at Rizzo’s ability to listen, communicate and lend a hand when help is needed. She never is afraid to pitch in if her community is short staffed, and she leads by example for her team at Generations, colleagues said.

More about Rizzo:

  • Rizzo once passed an exam to become a certified medication technician just to provide better support for her team.
  • In addition to her other credentials, she also is a certified volunteer guardian.
  • Beyond her work at Generations, Rizzo runs an individual counseling practice.
