Nancy Maina is a kind, talented and inspiring individual whose spirit of hard work and self-betterment has elevated her team to impressive heights, according to colleagues.

As senior health services director for Brightview Severna Park in Severna Park, MD, she has made life better for staff members and residents with exciting programs and efficient processes, they said. Some highlights include a wellness program that earned a satisfaction score of almost 92% from residents and an innovative and successful safety program.

Thanks to Maina, Brightview Severna Park is among the best-performing communities in the state. And senior living isn’t her only area of expertise.

Maina began her long-term care career in 2003 as a certified geriatric assistant and later changed lanes to become a nurse technician at a hospital. Her heart always was in senior living, though, and she took a job as a licensed practical nurse in 2011. A few years later, Maina joined Brightview as a wellness nurse.

Colleagues know her as a skilled clinician, a hard worker and a steadfast leader. She works tirelessly to ensure each resident receives exceptional, compassionate care, they said, adding that Maina leads by example, never shying away from an opportunity to mentor one of her teammates.

Her team thrives as a result. Maina has created career plans for 22 frontline associates, many of which have resulted in promotions. Brightview Severna Park also boasts a high employee retention rate.

More about Maina:

  • Maina became a registered nurse in 2017 and currently is working on a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
  • Her leadership skills have not gone unnoticed by her team. She was recognized as a 2023 Brightview Coach of the Year.
  • Maina’s skills are wide-ranging. Colleagues said she has an excellent bedside manner, is skilled at clinical assessments and occasionally performs the duties of a therapist or social worker.
