One of the top challenges facing smaller operators ishealth-insurance coverage. A bill that passed the House Small BusinessCommittee last week might offer some much-needed relief. Specifically, themeasure would allow operators with fewer than 100 employees to form healthinsurance purchasing cooperatives, while also receiving a refundable tax creditof 65% of the insurance’s cost. Committee Chair Nydia Velazquez (D-NY) said,”Small businesses should not have to choose between providing healthbenefits to their employees and keeping their doors open.”
