Older Americans paid nearly 10% less for generic drugs last year, according to a study by AARP.
Manufacturer prices for 185 generic medications fell by an average of 9.6% in 2007, the study found. It was the largest decrease since at least 2003.
Manufacturer prices for 43 of the medications decreased by as much as 69.5%, according to the study. Prices for 133 medications stayed the same. The prices for only nine of the treatments increased. The diabetes drug metformin, the hypertension medication lisinopril and the antidepressant mirtazapine had the most significant decreases in cost, the report found.
