Lawmakers, including Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY), are calling on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to release the balance of nursing home names on the highly publicized “special-focus facility” list.

Last week, CMS named only 54 facilities from the list of 128. The agency reportedly did not disclose the 74 additional facilities because they are new to the list or are showing improvement. Special-focus facilities, because of their poor quality record, are subject to more frequent inspections, with state inspectors visiting every six months rather than once a year.

Also of note: The American Health Care Association, the largest nursing home association in the country, received the names from CMS. It has not released them, however, because of CMS instructions prohibiting public disclosure.
