Survey: Adult day care average cost hits $61 daily

Care at adult day care centers averages $61 per day, according to what is being touted as the first nationwide survey of such services.

The highest average for adult day care was found in Vermont ($130 per day) and the lowest in Montgomery, AL ($21), according to researchers with the MetLife Mature Market Institute, which released findings Wednesday.

The survey also revealed that home healthcare aides averaged $19 per hour nationally, the same as last year. The average for homemakers/companions rose $1 to $18 hourly. Average rates for both of those were highest in Rochester, MN ($30 and $25 per hour), and lowest in Shreveport, LA ($13 and $12 per hour).
